Honored to be of service

At Block Counseling we do not take for granted the courage and bravery it takes to embark on a therapeutic journey. That’s why we hold tight to the core values of respect, acceptance, collaboration, and growth. In each session we provide, we seek to ensure that these values are at the forefront.

Fit is key for connection

I believe that a therapist and client need to have a great rapport, and that not all therapist fit with all clients and vice versa. I believe that each therapist has a tribe. The tribe is a group of people with whom the therapist is a great fit to serve.

Over the years, I have noticed those that seem to gain the most from working with me share some commonalities. While I primarily work with women, and women of color for that matter- I work with all genders and ethnicities.

Shared characteristics of my client tribe

My tribe is typically 1 or 2 generations away from humble beginnings, and may be the first in their family to break out of economic hardship and adversity. They are hard working, high functioning and high achieving (external). They have found that high achieving is not enough, and have come to understand that they often gain the most satisfaction from being a high performer (internal). They have learned that what society has prescribed as the American Dream doesn’t seem to bring them joy and find themselves going through the motions of life. They are now at a place where they want to define life for themselves. They are ready to take responsibility and learn new tools to hold themselves accountable. They are ready to regain their humanity. They desire to be more vulnerable with those they choose to have by their side. And they have become exhausted with being who everyone else has said they should be.
