I did a thing…

Hi and welcome to another installment of On Our Mind. It has been quite a while since I have stopped in to chat with you all, and for that- my apologies. Today I come to you to share about overcoming. Overcoming what you might ask…well anything.

Since I was a child, I have “hated” the way my voice sounds on recordings, and how my likeness looks on video. Therefore, I have avoided those things as much as possible for decades. Several months back, I was asked to be a guest on a podcast- UGLY Girl Talk with April Sampé. As reluctant as I was because of the aforementioned, I quickly said ‘yes’.

Why did I say ‘yes’, if I don’t like the recorded sound of my voice or visual of my likeness, you may wonder. Well, because! That’s it and that’s all. BECAUSE. Saying ‘yes’ meant I had to push passed my discomfort. I knew that appearing in this podcast was not going to be harmful to my wellbeing. And in fact would likely be a positive as it was allowing me to challenge myself to a new place of growth.

So ya’ll, I did a thing. A thing I don’t like to do. A thing that was “scary”. A thing that I wanted to avoid. And you know what- it was TOTALLY fine. In fact, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed being able to share my thoughts from a clinical perspective in a regular way. And I hope to do it again.

I share this to remind you that you too can do a thing. Not something dangerous….that is not what we are talking about—DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN HARMS WAY. Do a thing that makes you a little uncomfortable, and helps you to continue to grow into the fearless, powerful being that you are. I hope you give yourself permission to be excited, and proud of yourself, because YOU DID A THING.
